Corporate altruism? More like get'em where they least expect it.
The Globe and Mail is reporting on an agreement between the Toronto district school board and Future Shop. In return for $50,000 donations, two Toronto high schools will sport distinctive Future Shop branding. Oh and they have to be within a specified distance of a Future Shop.
I don't know. I think schools are schools and they are meant to foster thinking and knowledge, not generate brand loyalty amongst captive students. Explaining it away as a necessary evil in an era of budget shortfalls seems to indicate that parents and the school board are abdicating their responsibilities. Raise the taxes to pay for it and everyone screams. Allow a company to come in and brand the school in return for equipment? Not a peep.
Tip of the iceberg methinks. It sets a precedent that will be difficult to control as time goes on. Anyone looking forward to an education provided by the highest bidder?
