Make my city more Beautiful-er

Should ads in public space be made to help pay for public art to compensate?

That's the mission of the folks over at beautifulcity.ca. It's "a city building initiative that aims to beautify, democratize and diversify access to public space, and in turn -- hold companies investing in billboard advertising accountable for their impact on shared spaces through an annual license fee."

Y'know, I kinda like the idea, but then again, I love public art. Especially when it moves beyond incomprehensible sculpture and into the realm of interactive, fun and unexpected. And the idea of one feeding another appeals - it's akin to actually having that delicious moist rich chocolate cake and eating it too.
