New directions and the future of augmented reality

It's been used to sell cars, movies and who knows what else, but augmented reality is much more than a marketing platform. As data devices become more prevalent, augmented reality will eventually become a transparent overlay to our daily lives.

Here's a very cool article from Wired.com about AR, how it's being used and its future applications.

Now imagine a GPS device in a car that will display the AR onto the windshield (or a portion of it) instead of the tiny GPS screen.

Then add the ability of including your phonebook data in that AR info. Instead of just telling me your address, it will show me how far to your home or how far to YOU.

I may have to start developing my own version for Toronto hotspots.

Cool stuff.
